NSE Nifty up 6 pts to 2776; RIL in limelight

Mumbai, Feb 18 (PTI) Despite weak global cues and worsening world economic situation, the NSE Nifty managed a marginal gain of 6 points on support of index heavy-weight Reliance Industries (RIL) today.
The market witnessed a volatile opening amidst selling pressure from investors on the back of fall in global markets but rebounded on the strength of 2 per cent advance in RIL.

Recovery in some Asian indices and higher US index futures also helped the market sentiment.

The 50-share index opened lower at 2,755.15 and dropped further to a low of 2,736.65 before ending at 2,776.15, a marginal gain of 5.65 points, or 0.20 per cent, over the last close.

The Bank nifty dropped by 87.00 points to 4,077.30, CNX midcap by 27.05 points to 3,285.25, CNX Nifty Junior by 17.10 points 4,034.00 and S&P CNX Defty by 11.80 points to 1,923.50.

Turnover in cash segment hardened to Rs 7,742.77 crore from Rs 7,142.14 crore yesterday. A total of 5,102.94 lakh shares changed hands in 50,69,671 trades. Market capitalisation stood at Rs 27,12,214 crore. PTI
