The markets are witnessing a bit of volatility and are now trading near the unchanged mark. The profit booking emerged at higher level despite a sharp rise in the IIP data. The industrial output production (IIP) number for the month of April came in at 1.4% as against a contraction of -2.3% in March. The industrial output was 6.2% in the same month of the previous year. The manufacturing output for April has gone up to 0.7% and the mining output surged 3.8% (Y-o-Y). The significant selling pressure witnessed among the Auto, Realty, IT, Banking and Pharma stocks. However, Metal And Oil & Gas stocks hold on their gains. The broader market indices also facing the selling pressure as both the BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap indices are trading with a loss of around 0.5% each.
The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 15,400 mark and the NSE Nifty below the 4,650 mark.
Sterlite Industries reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading higher by (3.95%) at Rs. 730 while Mahindra & Mahindra reported the top loser trading down by (3.26%) at Rs. 788.70.
The overall market breadth is negative as 1031 stocks are advancing while 1441 stocks are declining and the 73 stocks remain unchanged on BSE.
At 12.31 pm, BSE Sensex was at 15,379.25 down by 32.22 points and the NSE Nifty was at 4,613.50 down by 24.20 points.
The BSE Mid cap is trading lower by 21.84 points at 5,325.74 and the BSE small Cap slipped by 37.85 points to trade at 6,112.59.
BSE Metal index surged by 494.57 points to 12,483.27 as Hindustan Zinc (10.04%), Sesa Goa (8.77%), JSW Steel (7.28%), Jindal Steel (6.76%), Welspun Gujarat Stahl (5.58%), Sterlite Industries (5.10%) and Hindalco Industries (4.43%) are trading higher.
BSE Auto index is trading marginally lower by 28.35 points at 4,990.63. The major losers are Mahindra & Mahindra (3.40%), Ashok Leyland (1.84%), Maruti Suzuki (1.78%), Bajaj Auto (1.54%) and Tata Motors (1.07%).
BSE Bankex index is trading higher by 60.26 points at 8,272.99. The main gainers are Indus Ind Bank (2.13%), Union Bank (1.62%), Oriental Bank (1.56%), ICICI Bank (1.56%) and AXIS Bank (0.90%)
BSE Realty index increased by 19.87 points to 3,775.36 as Phoenix Mill (5.61%), India Bull Real (4.06%), Anant Raj Industries (2.46%), Ansal Infra (2.22%) and Mahindra Life (1.68%) are trading higher.
BSE IT index inclined by 21.76 points to trade at 3,326.99 as Rolta Ind (3.98%), Financial Technologies (2.16%), TCS (1.64%), Patni Computer (1.81%) and Mphasis (1.32%) are trading in green.
BSE Oil & Gas index advanced by 193.01 points to 10,559.14 as Reliance Industries (2.40%), RPL (2.09%), HPCL (1.68%), Gail India (1.45%) and BPCL (1.16%) are trading in positive.
BSE Capital Goods index grew by 193.01 points to 10,559.41. The main gainers are Bharat Electrical (2.76%), ABB (1.99%), Alstrom Project (1.26%), BHEL (1.25%) and Havells India (1.24%).
BSE Power index increased by 56.21 points to 3,089.11. Leading the gainers are Suzlon Energy (3.60%), Torent Power (2.20%), Reliance Power (1.81%) and NTPC (0.95%).
On the global markets front, the Asian markets are trading mixed today as the Shanghai Composite and Straits Times index are trading lower by (2.45%) and (0.46%) respectively. However, Hang Seng, Nikkei 225 and Seoul Composite index is trading up by (0.5%), (1.55%) and (0.65%).
