The markets opened sharply higher with a heavy gap up on the back of positive cues from the global markets. All the sectorial indices are trading in green in the opening trade. The Realty index outperformed all the benchmark indices in the early trade as it is now trading with a gain of more than 4%. The Realty, Metal, Banking and Capital Goods stocks also remained in the limelight. The broader market indices are also witnessing significant buying interest as both the BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap indices were trading with a gain of more than 2.5% each.
The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 13700 mark and the NSE Nifty above the 4050 mark.
At 10.32 IST, the BSE Sensex is trading up by 304.53 points or (2.27%) at 13,704.85 and the NSE Nifty is trading higher by 93.90 points or (2.36%) at 4,067.95.
The BSE Mid Cap increased by 152.26 points or (3.32%) to 4,736.87 and the BSE Small Cap grew by 156.15 points or (3.09%) to 5,213.85.
Reliance Infra reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (5.43%) at Rs.1,019.10 while ONGC reported the top loser trading lower by (0.22%) at Rs.989.85.
The Overall market breadth is positive as 1259 stocks are advancing while 350 stocks are declining and the 38 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.
The US stocks markets made a sharp rebound on Monday and closed higher led by financials after an up gradation of Goldman Sachs by Wall Street analyst Meredith Whitney, a day ahead of its quarterly earnings report. Further the banking stocks also rallied after Meredith Whitney indicated that bank stocks have strong potential in the near-term. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) surged by 185.16 points at 8,331.68, NASDAQ index gained 37.18 points to 1,793.21 and the S&P 500 (SPX) grew by 21.92 points to close at 901.05 points.
Asian markets were trading higher today as Hang Seng, Nikkei 225, Straits Times and Seoul Composite index are trading up by (2.36%), (2.43%), (1.67%) and (1.45%) respectively.
BSE Realty index surged by 125.49 points or (4.58%) at 2,863.94. The top gainers are DLF grew by (5.29%) to Rs.283.55, India Bull Real inclined by (4.63%) to Rs.184.25, Unitech increased by (4.46%) to Rs.67.90 followed by Mahindra Life up by (4.19%) to Rs.236.50.
BSE Bank index jumped by 240.68 points or (3.29%) at 7,550.94. The top gainers are Indus Ind Bank grew by (5.07%) to Rs.81.85, ICICI Bank inclined by (5.41%) to Rs.666, Yes Bank grew by (4.28%) to Rs.132.70 followed by IDBI Bank up by (4.17%) to Rs.91.15.
AXIS Bank is trading higher by (2.87%) at Rs.777.10. The bank has reported a better than expected 70% jump in net profit. The bank has posted a net profit of Rs.562.04 crore for the quarter ended June 30 from Rs. 330.14 crore in the first quarter of `08-09. The sharp rise in net profit was mainly due to a sharp rise in trading income of Rs. 326.07 crore as against Rs. 57.31 crore in the previous year.
