The markets opened sharply higher in line with the Asian markets. The significant buying witnessed across the board in the early trade. The Realty, Metal, FMCG, Banking and IT stocks are leading the gains today. The telecom sector spurred led by the impressive performance by Bharti Airtel the first quarter of FY2009-10. The broader market indices are also witnessing significant buying interest in the opening trade as both the BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap indices are trading with a gain of more than 1.5% each.
The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 15100 mark and the NSE Nifty near the 4500 mark.
At 10.32 IST, the BSE Sensex is trading up by 305.33 points or (2.06%) at 15,148.15 and the NSE Nifty is trading higher by 94.25 points or (2.14%) at 4,493.15.
The BSE Mid Cap increased by 94.81 points or (1.83%) to 5,269.55 and the BSE Small Cap grew by 105.73 points or (1.82%) to 5,923.09.
Bharti Airtel has posted a 22% growth in its net profit at Rs26.48bn for the quarter ended June 30, 2009 as compared to Rs21.67bn for the quarter ended June 30, 2008 and up by 29.3% from Rs.24.47bn for the quarter ended March 31,2009. The company''s consolidated net sales increased 1.7% to Rs 104.29bn as against Rs 102.55bn, QoQ. The stock is now trading higher by (2.31%) at Rs. 842.05.
HDFC is now trading higher by (2.21%) at Rs.2,455. HDFC has reported a net profit of Rs. 564.92 crore for the quarter ended June 2009 up from Rs. 468 crore in June 2008. Howevcer, HDFC’s net interest margins fell marginally to 2.19%.
Hindalco Industries reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (5.03%) at Rs.89.80 while sun Pharmaceuticals reported the top loser trading lower by (3.55%) at Rs.1,210.55.
The Overall market breadth is positive as 1306 stocks are advancing while 392 stocks are declining and the 55 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.
The US stocks markets ended in mixed on Wednesday after a sharp raaly in the last few session. However the Nasdaq logged its eleventh straight advance due to continued strength among large-cap tech stocks. The energy stocks remained in pressure through out the session and finished with a 1.0% loss, more than any other sector pressured by the oil prices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped by 34.68 points at 8,881.26, NASDAQ index gained 10.18 points to 1,926.38 and the S&P 500 (SPX) fell by 0.51 points to close at 954.07 points.
Asian markets were trading higher today as Hang Seng, Nikkei 225, Straits Times and Seoul Composite index are trading up by (2.33%), (1.10%), (0.91%) and (0.39%) respectively.
BSE Metal index advanced by 331.66 points or (2.92%) at 11,677.27. The top gainers are Sterlite Industries grew by (4.42%) to Rs.627.85, Hindalco Industries inclined by (4.15%) to Rs.89.05, Ispat Industries increased by (3.15%) to Rs.21.30 followed by Tata Steel up by (3.19%) to Rs.411.
