Pre Session Market

Today domestic markets are likely to slightly lower on mixed global cues. Asian markets are mixed today, whereas US markets ended with gains on thursday. Meanwhile, the SGX Nifty futures for August 2009 expiry was 9.5 points lower in Singapore. In the domestic arena, selling by foreign funds may fuel the sentiments. However, recovery in monsoon may bring some respite. Market is likely to remain volatile during the trading.

On Thursday, Domestic markets closed higher. The domestic market today took a sharp turn from the sharp fall yesterday, as sustained buying during the trading propelled market to end with gains. Benchmark indices surged to intraday high during final trading hours on account of upward movement in front liners led by strong European markets along with higher US index futures. Firm closing of Asian stocks also lifted the sentiments. In addition, stocks extended gains also on news that rainfall dearth has reduced a bit. India’s cumulative rainfall deficit has lessened to 27% during the period from 1 June 2009 to 18 August 2009 from 29% during the period from 1 June 2009 to 12 August 2009. Though, inflation came in negative territory for 10th consecutive week. Inflation for the week ended 8th August stood at -1.53% with the previous week''''s annual decline of -1.74%. The BSE Sensex ended above 15,000 level and NSE Nifty closed above 4,400 mark.

The BSE Sensex closed higher by 202.68 points or (1.37%) at 15,012.32 and NSE Nifty ended up by 59.35 points or (1.35%) at 4,453.45. BSE Mid Caps and Small Caps closed with gains of 43.33 and 51.88 points at 5,477.38 and 6,360.27 respectively. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 15,145 and intraday low of 14,928.18.

On Thursday, US stock markets closed higher for a third straight day on some positive economic data like encouraging manufacturing report. The Philadelphia Federal Reserve branch said its gauge of manufacturing activity in the region increased to 4.2 in august from minus 7.5 in July. In addition, firm overseas market also supported gains in the US market. However, market ignored disappointing jobless claims report Initial jobless claims for the week ended August 15 came in higher than expectations at 576,000 and continuing claims made a slight advance to 6.24 million due to the expiring unemployment benefits. US light crude oil futures for September delivery ended at $72.54 per barrel higher by 0.2% on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The September contract expired at settlement, with the bulk of trading revolving around October futures, which settled 92 cents, or 1.3%, lower at $72.91 a barrel.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed higher by 70.89 points at 9,350.05, NASDAQ index inclined by 19.98 points to 1,989.22 and the S&P 500 (SPX) closed higher by 10.91 points at 1,007.37.

Today major stock markets in Asia are trading mixed. Taiwan Weighted is trading up by 21.16 points at 2,932.74 followed by Seoul Composite, which is trading higher by 0.42 points at 1,576.81. However, Japan''s Nikkei is trading lower by 172.10 points at 10,211.31. Hang Seng is also down by 118.62 points at 20,210.64. Strait Times is down by 18.42 points at 2,541.15.

Indian ADRs ended in green on Thursday. In the IT space, Wipro was up 1.89%, Satyam Computers was up 1.69%, Infosys was up 0.37% while Patni Computers ended down 1.21%. In the banking space, HDFC Bank was up 2.5% and ICICI Bank was up 1.85%. In the telecom space, MTNL was up 1.84% and Tata Communication was up 0.91%. In other sectors, Sterlite Industries was up 3.46%, Tata Motors was up 1.66% and Dr Reddy''s Labs was up 0.25%.

The FIIs on Thursday stood as net sellers in equity and net buyers in debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs 2,288.70 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs 75.00 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs 3,160.80 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs 0.00 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs (872.10) Crore and Rs 75.00 Crore respectively.

On Thursday, Indian Rupee closed at 48.71/72 per dollar, 0.1% stronger than previous close of 48.78/79. The rupee gained strength as stock markets rebound from yesterday’s losses increasing expectations of foreign capital inflow.

On BSE, total number of shares traded were 41.13 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs 4,863.43 Crore. On NSE, total number of shares traded were 80.07 Crore and total turnover was Rs 13,245.55 Crore.

Top traded volumes on NSE Nifty – Unitech with total volume traded 30768297 shares, followed by Suzlon Energy with 29444298, Idea Cellular with 13713553, Hindalco with 8391589 and Ambuja Cements with 6721671 shares.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 693849 with a total turnover of Rs 14,742.23 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 491920 with a total turnover of Rs 15,139.69 crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 1360598 with a total turnover of Rs 30687.92 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 42555 and notional turnover was Rs 1,313.11 Crore.

Today, Nifty would have a support at 4,362 and resistance at 4,531 and BSE Sensex has support at 14,688 and resistance at 15,286.

Pre Session Market

Today domestic markets are likely to open with positive as all the Asian markets are also trading in northward direction. The US markets closed with gains on the Fed’s accompanying statement and also the fed funds rate remaining unchanged at 0.00-2.00%. In the domestic arena the IIP data for the month of June recorded phenomenal growth of 7.8% which helped markets to rebound during the previous day’s trade. Today one could expect some rebound happening across the broader level.

On Wednesday, Domestic markets closed negative after late buying. Market opened on downbeat note tracking weak cues from the global markets. The Asian markets were down and US stocks markets closed lower on Tuesday, due to broad based selling led by banking stocks. Stocks skidded for the second consecutive day as investors awaited the Federal Reserve''''s latest decision on monetary policy and guidance on the outlook for recovery from the recession. Further, the investors were closely watching the industrial output that was data due later in the day. The IIP improved sharply in the month of June 2009 reporting a growth of 7.8%. Stocks continued to extend losses till afternoon mainly on concern that lesser than normal rain may weigh down economic recovery. However, market started recovering during final trading hours and minimized losses at the end on positive European markets. From the sectoral front, IT, Metal, PSU, Oil & Gas, Bank and Capital Goods witnessed most of the selling pressure. However, Realty, Pharma and Auto stocks were able to gain favour from the market. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices also remained on buyers’ radar.

The BSE Sensex closed lower by 54.43 points at 15,020.16 and NSE Nifty ended down by 13.85 points at 4,457.50. BSE Mid Caps and Small Caps closed with gains of 15.11 and 28.71 points at 5,414.53 and 6,134.93 respectively. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 15,043.62 and intraday low of 14,071.05.

On Wednesday, US stock markets closed higher. FOMC leaves the fed funds rate unchanged at 0.00% to 2.00%. There was no negative news in the markets and therefore a lot of buying supported extended gains across broader level. Traders were also concerned about Fed''s accompanying statement, which indicated that the FOMC expects inflation to remain subdued for some time and economic activity is likely to remain weak for some time. The FOMC also said sluggish income growth will constrain household spending, though members hold the belief that economic activity is leveling out. Financial stocks were the leaders with gains of 2.0%, whereas consumer staples were the laggard of the day. US light crude oil futures for September delivery closed at $70.16 per barrel higher by 1.0% on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed higher by 120.61 points at 9,361.61, NASDAQ index inclined by 28.99 points to 1,998.72 and the S&P 500 (SPX) closed higher by 11.46 points at 1005.81.

Today major stock markets in Asia are trading in positive territory. Shanghai Composite is low by 12.32 points at 3,100.39. Japan''s Nikkei is trading up by 99.25 points at 10,534.25 followed by Strait Times and Seoul Composite which are also trading higher by 40.16 and 11.09 points at 2,611.47 and 1,576.44 respectively. Hang Seng is up by 397.65 points at 20,832.89 and Taiwan Weighted is up by 116.58 points at 7,015.48.

Indian ADRs ended in green on Wednesday. In the banking space, ICICI Bank was up 3.78% and HDFC Bank was up 1.83%. In the telecom space, MTNL was up 3.58% and Tata Communication was up 2.63%. In the IT space, Patni Computers was up 4.27%, Infosys was up 0.87%, Satyam Computers was up 3.22% and Wipro was up 1.84%. In other sectors, Tata Motors was up 4.80%, Sterlite Industries was up 1.62% and Dr Reddy''s Labs was up 1.41%.

The FIIs on Wednesday stood as net buyers in equity and net sellers in debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs 2,894.10 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs 2,190.00 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs 91.80 Crore, while gross debt sold stood at Rs 254.30 Crore. The net investment of equity reported was Rs 704.20 Crore and net debt was Rs (162.50) Crore.

On Wednesday, the partially convertible rupee ended at 48.36/37, 0.83% weaker than its previous close at 47.96/97. The negative trading in the domestic markets pulled the local currency against dollar.

On BSE, total number of shares traded were 39.48 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs 5,917.26 Crore. On NSE, total number of shares traded were 77.08 Crore and total turnover was Rs 15,992.79 Crore.

Top traded volumes on NSE Nifty – Unitech with total volume traded 60299149 shares, followed by Suzlon Energy with 43263196, Tata Steel with 15207451, DLF with 13292541 and Hindalco with 10913902 shares.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 847356 with a total turnover of Rs 18,006.14 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 516285 with a total turnover of Rs 15,877.74 crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 1234591 with a total turnover of Rs 28,200.10 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 45336 and notional turnover was Rs 1,435.39 Crore.

Today, Nifty would have a support at 4,486 and resistance at 4,512 and BSE Sensex has support at 15,098 and resistance at 15,235.

Pre Session Market

Today domestic markets are likely to open positive as majority of Asian markets have opened with remarkable gains. US markets closed mixed amidst higher expectations of quarterly earnings by traders. In the Domestic arena there could be sector specific movement lead by quarterly results announced. Selling pressure can erupt anytime depending on cues from European markets. However there could be some early surge on today’s trade followed by a volatile session.

On Wednesday, Indian markets closed in red for the second consecutive day. After a phenomenal opening and pre-mid session rally, domestic benchmark indices gave up firmness to trade choppy. Traders could not muster buying sentiments despite good quarterly results from BHEL and Wipro. The negative trading of European markets and also US index futures trading in red garnered selling pressure in the domestic markets. Abrupt selling pressure after the post mid session pulled the bench mark indices below the psychological levels of 15k (Sensex) and 3400 (S&P CNX Nifty). From the sectoral front CG, Auto, Power and IT were the top losers of the day. However, PSU, Realty and CD were least affected. BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap index lost 0.97% and 0.35% respectively. Domestic markets are likely to trade volatile.

The BSE Sensex closed lower by 219.37 points at 14,843.12 and NSE Nifty ended lower by 70.20 points at 4,398.90 BSE Mid Caps and Small Caps closed low by 50.47 points and 20.46 points at 5,174.74 and 5,817.36 respectively. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 15,369.42 and intraday low of 14,786.58.

On Wednesday, the US stocks markets closed mixed. Higher expectations by traders from Corporate Earnings and also the profit booking pressures pulled Dow Jones into negative territory. Apple (AAPL 156.74, +5.23) reported better-than-expected earnings of $1.35 per share, which is $0.18 better than the expectation. On the financial space, better-than-expected earnings from Wells Fargo (WFC 24.45, -0.90) were partly overshadowed by news that the company''s revenues fell short of the consensus and net charge-offs increased markedly to almost $4.4 billion. Further more than 150 companies are expected to announce their latest quarterly results between this evening and Thursday''s opening bell. On US light crude oil futures for August delivery closed at $65.36 per barrel down by 0.4% on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed lower by 34.68 points at 8,881.26, NASDAQ index gained 10.18 points to 1,926.38 and the S&P 500 (SPX) closed flat at 954.07.

Today major stock markets in Asia are trading positive. Hang Seng is up by 469.09 points at 19,717.26. Shanghai Composite is up by 22.603 points at 3,319.218. Japan''s Nikkei is trading up by 118.36 points at 9,841.52. Strait Times is up by 25.39 points at 2,476.22. Seoul Composite is up by 8.4 points at 1,502.44 and KLSE Composite is up by 14points at 1,148.70.

Indian ADRs ended mixed on Wednesday. In the IT space, Infosys was down 0.98%, Patni Computers was down 0.17% while Wipro was up 0.59% and Satyam Computers was up 2.52%. In the telecom space, Tata Communication was down 0.34% while MTNL was up 0.5%. In the banking space, HDFC Bank was down 2.31% and ICICI Bank was down 2.18%. In other sectors, Dr Reddy''s Labs was down 3.33%, Sterlite Industries was up 1.32% while Tata Motors was unchanged at $ 9.16.

The FIIs on Wednesday stood as net buyers in equity. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs 2,547.40 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs 2,497.30 Crore. The net investment of equity reported was Rs 50.10 Crore. There was no trade in debt market.

On Wednesday, the partially convertible rupee ended at Rs 48.52/53, 0.2% weaker than its previous close at 48.42/43. The rupee lost strength as domestic stock markets plummeted on weak global cues.

On BSE, total number of shares traded were 46.43 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs 6,671.65 Crore. On NSE, total number of shares traded were 108.42 Crore and total turnover was Rs 21,378.53 Crore.

Top traded volumes on NSE Nifty – Unitech with total volume traded 80050645 shares, followed by Suzlon Energy with 69328673, Tata Steel with 19621179, DLF with 19509844 and Reliance with 13420740 shares.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 1009459 with a total turnover of Rs 21,731.01 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 774528 with a total turnover of Rs 23,094.81 crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 1997574 with a total turnover of Rs 44,779.15 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 66283 and notional turnover was Rs 2,036.11 Crore.

Today, Nifty would have a support at 4,338 and resistance at 4,468 and BSE Sensex has support at 14,685 and resistance at 15,111.

Pre Session Market

Today domestic markets are likely to open positive as majority of Asian markets have opened with phenomenal gains. The US financial sector surged last night on positive remarks from Wall Street analyst Meredith Whitney. This helped the US markets gain at broader level and consequently markets across Asia are on the northward movement. Domestic markets are likely to open with a positive gap, which would be backed by financial stocks mainly. The early gain may however test the profit booking pressures.

On Monday, domestic markets closed lower. On the back of weak cues from Asian markets the domestic benchmark indices opened with blood bath. The falling consumer confidence numbers in US caused bearishness across Asian markets. There was lack of news in the domestic arena and therefore traders closely monitored the foreign markets. Simultaneously the surge in European markets helped domestic frontline stocks to pare off some of its early losses. Sectors like CG, Metal, Realty and Auto were the top losers of the day as they fell by 5.68%, 3.77%, 3.77% and 2.57% respectively. Selling pressure was more intense in the bottom line stocks as BSE Midcap and Smallcap closed plunged by 2.84% and 3.38% respectively. Today domestic markets are likely to trade positive.

The BSE Sensex closed low by 103.90 points at 13,400.32 and NSE Nifty lost 27.55 points at 3,976.35. BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap closed with losses of 133.98 points and 176.80 points at 4,584.61 and 5,057.70. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 13,461.68 and intraday low of 13,219.99.

On Monday, the US stocks markets closed with phenomenal gains. The Financial stocks were the charm of the day as they lifted the market sentiments at broader level. The early selling pressure was evaded by positive outlook of financial stocks. Wall Street analyst Meredith Whitney has given positive outlook of the financial sector by indicating that bank stocks have strong potential in the near-term. The analyst has also upgrade Goldman Sachs (GS 149.44, +7.57) rightly ahead of its latest quarterly earnings announcement on Tuesday. Investors are also optimistic about the results of Goldman. Regional and diversified banks managed to record remarkable gains of 6.3 per cent and 8 per cent respectively. Tomorrow the corporate forecasts, June PPI, June retail sales data, and business inventory data for May will influence the market sentiments. US light crude oil futures for August delivery closed at $59.70 per barrel down by 0.3 per cent on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed higher by 185.16 points at 8,331.68. NASDAQ index gained 37.18 points to 1,793.21 and the S&P 500 (SPX) closed up by 21.92 points at 901.05.

Today major stock markets in Asia are trading in green. Hang Seng is up by 377.44 points at 17,632.07. Shanghai Composite is up by 47.93 points at 3,128.4894. Japan''s Nikkei is trading up by 182.13 points at 9,232.46. Strait Times is up by 35.72 points at 2,302.36.

Indian ADRs ended mixed on Monday. In the banking space, ICICI Bank was up 4.76% and HDFC Bank was up 2.25%. In the IT space, Infosys was up 0.78%, Patni Computers was up 1.35% while Wipro was down 2.35% and Satyam Computers was down 3.69%. In the telecom space, MTNL was down 1.33% and Tata Communication was down 1.54%. In other sectors, Sterlite Industries was up 3.39% while Dr Reddy''s Labs was down 2.06% and Tata Motors was down 0.51%.

On Monday, the partially convertible rupee ended at Rs 49.08/09, 0.1% lower than its previous close at 49.00/02. The rupee lost its strength due to fall in local stock markets.

The FIIs on Monday stood as net sellers in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs 1,897.80 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs 54.50 Crore while the gross equity sold stood at Rs 2,520.90 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs 546.60 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity reported was Rs (623.20) Crore and net debt was Rs (492.10) Crore.

On BSE, total number of shares traded were 29.59 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs 4,095.61 Crore. On NSE, total number of shares traded were 75.45 Crore and total turnover was Rs 13,248.49 Crore.

Top traded volumes on NSE Nifty – Unitech with total volume traded 88139666 shares, followed by Suzlon Energy with 46890032, DLF with 12060484, SAIL with 12024954 and Tata Steel with 9085426 shares.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 660632 with a total turnover of Rs 12,516.99 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 490381 with a total turnover of Rs 12,281.38 crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 1178647 with a total turnover of Rs 24,287.94 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 43438 and notional turnover was Rs 1,212.19 Crore.

Today, Nifty would have a support at 4,010 and resistance at 4,079 and BSE Sensex has support at 13,525 and resistance at 13,693.

Pre Session Market

Today domestic markets are likely to open positive as most of the Asian markets have opened positive and the US markets have shown better than expected retail sales data. The northward movement of frontline stocks would however test the profit booking pressure. The mid cap and small cap stocks seem to have lost its shine and therefore much movement in that space is less likely. Sesa Goa will be in the limelight today as the company is acquiring a major stake in Dempo for Rs.1,750 crore. The further movement of the markets would depend on the opening of European markets.

On Thursday, the domestic markets closed nearly flat with minimal loss. After a subdued opening the domestic bench mark indices drifted towards the southward on cues of gyrating Asian markets. The sentiments were weak since the opening bell, however throughout day the domestic markets traded range bound. The frontline stocks pared off some gains at this high level and in the stock specific move, Satyam (+10% to Rs80.85) closed with a buying freeze for the third consecutive day. During the last hour of the trade, the markets managed to pare off its early losses to close flat. The inflation numbers fell to three decades low at 0.13% and its has been learned that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has asked banks to reduce interest rates to lend more for the growth in country’s economic activity. We expect the markets to be trading volatile.

The BSE Sensex closed with a loss of 55.34 points at 15,411.47 and NSE Nifty ended with a marginal loss of 17.55 points at 4,637.70. BSE Mid Caps and Small Caps closed with losses of 11.92 points and 55.98 points at 5,347.58 and 6,150.44 respectively. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 15,568.74 and intraday low of 15,240.73.

On Thursday, the US Markets closed with moderate gains on the back of better than expected macro economic indicators. Retail sales data recorded a growth of 0.5%, the best in the first three months. Initial weekly jobless claims are declining at a phenomenal pace but the unemployment claims climbed to a record high. Utilities stocks were the charm of the day as it gained a remarkable 2.0% followed by impressive gains among energy stocks, which finished 1.8% higher. The recent surge in crude oil prices has pushed energy stocks to new high and thanks to the good oil demand forecast by IEA for 2009. The US light crude oil for July delivery closed high by 1.81% at $72.60 per barrel marking a new 2009 high on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed high by 31.90 points at 8,770.92 the NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index inclined by 9.29 points to close at 1,862.37 and the S&P 500 (SPX) closed high by 5.74 points at 944.89.

Today major stock markets in Asia are trading positive. Hang Seng is up by 186.17 points at 18,977.20. Shanghai Composite is low by 16.34 points at 2,780.886. Japan''s Nikkei is trading up by 90.71 points at 10,072.04. Strait Times is also low by 9.87 points at 2,371.94. KLSE Composite is up by 5.99 at 1,088.

The FIIs on Thursday stood as net buyers in equity and no trade in debt. The Gross equity purchased stood at Rs 3,851.50 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs 0.00 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs 3,133.80 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs 0.00 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs 717.60 Crore and Rs 0.00 Crore respectively.

On Thursday, the partially convertible rupee closed at 47.60/61 per dollar, 0.80% weaker than it previous close at 47.24/25. The rupee fell due to lackluster trading in local stock markets.

On BSE, total number of shares traded were 55.54 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs 7,618.57 Crore. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 126.29 Crore and total turnover was Rs 23,892.48 Crore.

Top traded volumes on NSE Nifty – Unitech with 88512670 shares, Suzlon Energy with 61687941 shares, Idea Cellular with 35040268 shares, Hindalco with 26673066 shares, followed by Reliance Power with 15355920 shares.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 620479 with a total turnover of Rs 13,799.74 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 452149 with a total turnover of Rs 27,097.97 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 869113 with a total turnover of Rs 20,333.09 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 39153 and notional turnover was Rs 2,233.47 Crore.

Today, Nifty would have a support at 4,541 and resistance at 4,713 and BSE Sensex has support at 15,275 and resistance at 15,605.
